The Story
We’re in the middle of transforming an old barn into The Fox Hostel. It’s a work in progress — built with care, character, and a deep connection to the land around us. This is our story, unfolding one board and idea at a time.
Features
The beginning
The Fox Hostel began its life in the 1960s — not as a hostel, but as the largest barn in Iceland at the time. Built to shelter animals, it now finds new purpose as a warm and welcoming place for travelers.

A home
For many years it has been a home for the habitants of Hrífunes during winter times.

Hrifunes Nature Park
The Fox Hostel is part of Hrífunes Nature Park — a sanctuary surrounded by raw Icelandic beauty. Since 2017, travelers have come here to reconnect with nature: to wake up to birdsong, walk among wild birch trees, and watch the northern lights dance across an untouched sky. It’s not just a place to stay — it’s a place to feel alive.

January 2025
In the stillness of winter, beneath a blanket of snow, the transformation began. The old barn, once filled with hay and stories, took its first steps toward becoming The Fox Hostel.

February 2025
The wind howled across the Hrífunes plains, but inside the old barn, something new was beginning. With frozen fingers and warm hearts, we started the renovation — turning history into a home once more.

March 2025
The weather in Iceland changes in the blink of an eye — snow one moment, sunshine the next. But in between the storms, we were lucky. A few calm days gave us the chance to breathe, climb the roof, and begin rebuilding under blue skies and a quiet wind.

April 2025
Hard to believe, isn’t it? Just two months ago this was still a dusty old barn — and now, our very first room is ready. Walls are up, the wood smells fresh, and a little piece of The Fox Hostel has come to life.

Opening July 2025
It’s almost time. This is how we imagine The Fox Hostel — a cozy, modern retreat with deep roots in its rustic past. Opening in July 2025, we can’t wait to welcome you.
