Reynisfjara near Vík is the most famous black beach in the region, recognised for its basalt columns, sea stacks and striking contrasts between black sand, white surf and dark cliffs. Glaciers and Ice Experiences Boat Tours
Visiting Vatnajökull National Park is a must when exploring the South Coast. As one of Europe’s largest national parks, it offers a wide range of glacier related activities. From here, you can join guided glacier hikes, explore ice formations up close or take a boat tour on the famous Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where icebergs drift slowly toward the sea. Nearby, the Diamond Beach offers a striking contrast, with pieces of ice scattered across black sand. Waterfalls and Hike through Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon
Fjaðrárgljúfur is one of the South Coast’s most impressive natural landmarks and is located close to The Fox Hostel. This dramatic canyon was carved by glacial meltwater over thousands of years and stretches for nearly two kilometres, with steep cliffs and a winding river below. A well maintained walking path follows the edge of the canyon, offering several viewpoints along the way. The hike is suitable for most visitors and can be completed in a relatively short time, making it an ideal stop during your stay. Fjaðrárgljúfur is especially striking in good light, when the contrasts between water, rock and vegetation are at their strongest.
